Summer Stitching

Image

It's getting hot out & time for Summertime stitching!  While searching for a particular design for a stitcher, Molly ran across a darling summer design that neither of us could remember (obviously those brain cells have given up the  ghost).  So we thought we should gather together some of these adorable Summer designs into one spot!

See even more  summer stitching on our "Summer" page, our Seashore page, and don't forget Gardens!

We'll drop in a few hints for summer time stitching too!

Call of the Ocean - from X-Appeal (aka, US!).  The perfect beach cottage!

Summer Breeze - from Country Garden. You can almost feel the breeze!!

Summer Bouquet - from Cedar Hill. There's nothing better than a riotous bouquet of summer flowers!

Summer Sampler - from Waxing Moon.  Sunflowers, grapes, a beehive...aaaaahhhhh!

Seashell Treasures - from Dimensions.  Another kind of bouquet, and these will never wilt!

Summertime Sampler - from Janlynn.  Isn't this what your summer looks like?  "How much can we cram in?"  But it's all there!

Welcome Summer - from The Stitching Parlor.  A small sampler with lots of "summer".

Bee Joyful - from Country Cottage.  You can hear the bees buzzing!

Wash Day - from Carriage House.  Because you don't see many birds bathing in the winter, now do ya?

Summer Seascape - from Country Cottage & Crescent Colours.  This is perfect for your summer cottage (& your everyday home!).

Bells of Summer - from Silver Lining.  These designs are always stunning & I love these flowers!!

I Love Summer - from Homespun Elegance.  Really, there's nothing more to say!!

Summer Quilt - from Imaginating.  This is adorable - & has remained unbelievably popular!

Blue Hawaiian Garden - from By the Bay. Now, granted, it's ALWAYS summer in Hawaii, but the rest of us....  (Hmmm, wonder if they need a cross stitch shop in Hawaii??).

Trellis Birdhouse - from Imaginating.  Lush flowers & birdies getting out of the house!

Geranium House - from Country Cottage.  Actually, that's what our house should be called.  Ruth Ellen has always loved geraniums, & last year she found a nursery that has the most beautiful plants - we have them all around the house - she even managed to winter over some of them.  So this would be definitely summer for us.

Summer Place - from Cricket.  This would be my perfect summer place - I love the chairs, the sailboats, the victorian house....Perfect!

Happy Independence Day - from Sue Hillis.  You can't have summer without it - one year we were traveling in Austria & Germany over the 4th (in fact, we were driving over a "scenic mountain pass"), & we stopped & had a snowball fight. Not my idea of July 4th, however, there were fireworks that night.  Interesting, no?

Flip Flop Welcome - from Imaginating. What would summer be without flipflops?  Right Kim?

Flip Flop Days - from Just Another Button Company.

Flip Flops Mini Jelly Blocks - from Hinzeit.  Perfect for summer!  I love this - use summer colors!

June Small Pillow - from Pine Mountain.  These are a few of my favorite things - baseball, watermelon, sunshine, picnics....and ANTIES (that's what my nephews call me - now all their buddies call me that too!!).

Summer Stitching Tips

Fortunately, we've gotten rid of that winter "dry hands" thing, but summer presents its own set of stitching challenges!

My hands have a certain chemical makeup that rusts my needles quickly, & it's even worse in the summer!  The best thing for that is to always be sure to "park" your needle in the edge of your fabric (in case you win the lottery & take off on a round the world tour - don't want your needle to rust in the center of your design).  Also wash & dry your hands often.

If you're stitching outside, keep a damp washcloth or paper towels in a ziploc bag.  That way, you can wipe your hands regularly.

If you're stitching by the pool or at the beach, be cautious of what you're working on. Don't use overdyed threads.  Even if you dry your hands off, the moisture from your swimsuit can cause those threads to run (this is from an actual occurrence).

Work on smaller projects - they're less likely to become stained from your SUNSCREEN.

Summer is the PERFECT time to work on smaller count fabric, because you can sit outside in the best light of all.  Just please, please, please put on your SUNSCREEN first!!
