Class Descriptions

The pictures shown below are just SAMPLES of the stitching techniques we will be teaching..they are NOT what we will be working on in class.

Click on the picture to go to the Specific Details for each project.

Beginners - basics of counted cross stitch

     Experience "hands on" techniques.  Learn to read the graph, select fabrics, needle size, and floss....not to mention "where to start" .... and most importantly..."how big of a piece of fabric will I need??"

best things pillow

Best Things in Life is done on 10ct Tula....would be a great beginners project.

~~~~~
Linen - and other evenweave basics
     Counting threads to create an "x" on evenly woven fabric...often linen....opens a large window for creating counted cross stitch handwork.  Learn the secrets of seeing the threads and how to "sew" the stitches.
liberty
Liberty is a good project to try on linen...not too big.....not too many color changes....
~~~~

Puncneedle - Come learn this "new" old technique.  It looks like miniature rug hooking!  It's very simple to learn & very easy (& very "forgiving").  You don't have to know how to cross stitch to master this technique.

~~~
Framing - Frame your own pieces!  Come learn all (or at least a few!) of Lise's tricks of the trade!  Lise is our expert framer.  The beginner's class is strictly flat mount or puff (no mats or glass).  The advanced class is how to frame with glass &/or mats.  You must come in at least 2 weeks before class & let us measure your piece & order your supplies.  Sign up quickly, these classes fill up fast.
Specialty Stitches -the beauty of counting threads
     Adding special techniques to basic cross stitch primarily on Linen like fabrics adds not only texture or dimension, but an element of learning and creating something beyond the basics.
  (smyrna, rice 4-sided, queen, knot, herringbone, blanket, algerian eyelet, rhodes stitch)
This is a great example of some of the different specialty stitches.....these particular stitches start with A, B or C
Hemstitching -
      You may say....."I don't do hems" ... but find out the many ways to embellish your own handwork using this simple stitch.  We'll also learn to make a hem to finish an edge.  Fun Stuff!
Everything You Wanted to Know...and Were AFraid to Ask -
     In short...learn the tricks of the trade....a twist of the thread, a loop to start...and much more, to usea hoop or NOT....personalizing your sampler or piece.
A Lecture class.....too much to show!
~~~

Beginning Hardanger - pronounced Har-dahng-er or simply Har-dang-er!

      This beautiful embroidery often associated with Norway consists of making kloster blocks (a form of satin stitch) and creating openings by cutting certain threads, and then weaving eyelets, bars, and more.

Create Your Own Sampler -

     Why not try your hand at this method used for centuries in teaching young girls (perhaps some boys) the alphabet, numbers, borders, and verses.  We'll use colored pencils to create simple borders and motifs; find out how to chart a verse; the symmetry involved when needed.  This will be a creative class, marking your own techniques and history in a sampler.

The sky's the limit!!!
